Coding of the subbands

The subsampled images may be processed in many ways. Simple coding schemes process all subbands independently, according to their characteristics. The simplest way is to use uniform quantizer, which is tested in next interactive exercise. Usually more sophisticated non-uniform quantizers are used.

Better results are obtained when some similarities between subbands are used in the processing scheme. In the multi-level tree structured processing one can see that areas in different scales have similar properties.
